Ooh, a tortie point! I’m new to Siamese-related cats; this summer my sister talked me into taking a cat who moved in to her place, and he is a lynx point. I did a bunch of reading on the genetics and decided it’s most likely he has two copies of the recessive point gene because the local cat population is probably quite inbred. My other cats are not amused as he will be as aggressive as he can get away with, but stopping short of an actual fight. He was probably 1 last summer, the two who can hold their own will turn five tomorrow, and my old “gentle soul” that we have to protect from him is some years older than that. Here Sméagol is in a rare moment of peacefulness. (He was named by my niece.)

What a beauty!! Very unique! What's interesting about Fiona's color is that her body coloring is very mottled, light and darker brown. You'd think her points would be seal colored but they are black with the tortie splashes. I haven't a clue what gene soup she comes from! LOL!

We had two Balinese cats in the distant past. They were so darn much fun! If I ever got another cat, it would be a male, with a splash of Siamese in it somewhere. I had hoped to buy a Balinese kitten a few years ago, but four figures for a cat, nuh-uh, and the breeder was a lunatic! LOL! She would sell her kittens to the person who sent her the most emails, and they had better be on the worshipful (to her) side!

Fiona gets a little over-affectionate sometimes and gets a little bitey, and she doesn't seem to know her claws are retractable. LOL! I have to armor up when she takes a notion to sit on me. But she is a wonderful, hilarious kitty!

Our 40's weather turned back to 20's today, with blistering wind, a solid grey sky, and snow flurries...

Spring, please come quick! The daffodils in our yard are already coming up, you must be close...

It was 38 when I brought the horses up for supper; at least the wind had died down. Our daffodils are done blooming, the Bradford Pears are done flowering and turning green, the Redbud trees are in full bloom with their pretty purple flowers before leafing up. We are supposed to hit 20 tonight so that means we could see high teens.

Grass is growing in some areas of the hard to where I am going to have to mow next week, like it or not, but here we are in a night two of a three night hard freeze🤐🤐

That said, here are my precious and handsome seniors getting guided into the front pasture for supper and bed time tonight. Duncan would come up to the barn on his own but he won’t move until Rusty does, and Rusty won’t move until he sees me on the 4-wheeler shaking the buggy whip at him, lol

This was ~15 minutes later while they were eating supper. My cell phone did not capture how glorious the sunset was. Venus is still visible, Jupiter has disappeared ☹

Posting in the middle of the night... It's around 41 here and raining... Just went out to put some hay on the mat in our boy's open-to-the-pasture stall... When he trotted in get his unexpected snack, his body/neck/chest were wet but still warm (yay!) but his ears were cold... Since I don't blanket, my goal is to keep him from shivering... I worry about rain overnight and cool (for us) temps.

He was happily munching away when I turned off the lights.

The Siamese gene fades out the color on warm parts of the body, so you will see the full pattern on head, legs, and tail, and a muted version on the body. So a tabby point (lynx point) is just a regular tabby cat but the pattern is faded on the body. A tortie point will be a tortoiseshell, fully visible on the points, but faded on the body. And they all have those gorgeous blue eyes. So presumably the base color of a pure seal point Siamese is the seal?? Just faded over the body. As I said, I did a bunch of reading to figure out where Sméagol‘s coloration comes from.

Also, it just clicked that your cat is Fiona — and the niece who named Sméagol is Fiona! 🤣

@tempest: First, hope you are feeling better. I don't generally have a difficult time adjusting to the Spring forward time change. The thing is, I still get up after 7-8 hours of sleep but because we have an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day I just feel like I'm expending more energy because I'm doing more later in the day. Does that make any sense?

I prefer this time @tempest myself. I feel like the days are going fast enough, but I feel like winter is dragging on and on. It’s storming now and will through Thursday I think. I’m not even sure anymore. It’s snowing, but the flood warning is still out there, or maybe it’s a watch now? They’ve done a lot to mitigate the damage, and maybe have enough stops in place that it won’t be so dramatic this second round. I hope so anyways.

I did finally come up with some leppies for my milk cow, so the last couple of days have revolved around that. They aren’t the healthiest bunch though sadly. The healthiest appearing died the first night by getting stuck in an ice ledge. The other two we purchased have some sort of illness, and then I got one from our place today who is currently a ball of fire. She’s cute as can be. I’m hoping she doesn’t pick up what the other two have, but it seems like the likelihood. I’ve never brought outside calves in before, and might learn my lesson the hard way. I hope not as we are now on top of it, but the sickest will be a struggle to get through the other side. It might be a bit late to save her.

This weather is making days drag. On the Weather Channel I saw pictures of parts of Kern County, CA farmland under water. Their winter crops are ruined. Livestock is not surviving. Not only Is this a tragedy for the farmers who are just getting by, the price of anything and everything will no doubt skyrocket.

Looking at the U.S. weather map on the Weather Channel, nobody is exempt from some sort of abnormal weather.

Keep your livestock drinking. I have added a little more non-iodized sea salt to the feed pans. I watch them pee every chance I get because the thicker the urine, the more water the horse needs.

Monday at 4:24 PM Central it will officially the first day of spring and it doesn’t feel like it, We are at 28 degrees as I write this and will drop another 8-9 degrees. The good news is we should hit 52 with full sunshine . Still below normal but better than these last several days have been.

Hopefully the rest of the U.S. is in the same warming trend - maybe not back up to normal but at least better than it has been and those buried in feet of snow won‘t see it melting too fast.

@tempest , not dragging but a little longer. Since days normally fly by for me, I'll take it. It was still fairly light out at 8:00 pm and that took me by surprise. Guess I hadn't been paying close enough attention to the lengthening days.

@walkinthewalk , posting 2 hours behind your post and we're 1 degree colder than you are at 27. Low is supposed to be 24 tonight.

Mission accomplished! I managed to get through the weekend without going anywhere, having company or talking to anyone other than the hubby. I feel recharged now. LOL

@JCnGrace it‘s 19 degrees at 5:45 AM🤯🤯. This is lovely for the gauge on the propane tank🤐🤐. Once DH goes to work, I will cut the heat back to 66😳😳

Full sunshine is still predicted with a high of 54 - that’s only ten degrees below normal🤐🤐.

The dogs didn’t get to check fences yesterday - they are not happy but they’re quiet because they’re older, lol. I’ll take them today.

The horses are good with these temps as long as it isn’t raining and the wind isn’t trying to carry them into the next county. I am still wide-eyed that, after an entire life in SoCal, Duncan loves this cold weather— further testimony to the influence of his Nordic genes.

This weeks weather forecast... Any predictions on how much deeper the 'almost going over the top of rubber muck boots' mud is going to get after another four days of rain?
Font Rectangle Circle Brand Electric blue

If it wasn't such a large price jump to go from pasture board to stall board for a month, I think I'd have the horses brought in at night, just to have some time on dry ground. Plus, Minnie loves the stall and I think BO might have an issue convincing her it's time to return to the mud pit.

@Horse & Dog Mom I think it gets into the ground, and that’s why you see it in a less extreme place more, just because it was there already.

It’s not cold this morning. 31. It’s snowing though. The world is white again.

Didn't get to eat Chinese today, they are closed on Mondays now.😭 We had Mexican instead. Then I went to the grocery store but didn't make it to the other side of town for the few things I needed to pick up at Walmart and the haircut. Oh well, another day, maybe Wednesday. As it was I didn't get home until 7:00 p.m. Good thing I got up early and fed before I left or I'd have had an angry crowd waiting on me when I got home.

Now they have more of the road we come into town on closed down and we have to go way out of the way to get there. I don't know how long they're planning on having that section closed but it's a PITA. This was not a well thought out road construction job. They have a sign pointing the way to turn to take the detour but once you turn there no more signs showing you where to turn again. LOL I wonder how many people who don't know the area are still driving around lost because that is very easy to do in this county. When mom was still alive and would come down she'd take the wrong Y on our road every time which kept her driving in circles. I don't know about google maps but garmin would get you lost too, it sent you to the gravel road that runs behind us. I've gotten lost more than once trying to find shortcuts.
