My sister loves to ride her Morgan bareback. I want to get her a bareback pad for Christmas, seeing as that plucky mare of hers is not comfortable to ride at a trot (canter is like floating on a cloud).

What are some good bareback pads out there?

Just want to comment to get her one WITHOUT stirrups.

IMO, stirrups on a bareback pad are just downright dangerous.
She usually rides without stirrups anyway. Her one leg is shorter then the other that combined with an old back injury makes using stirrups uncomfortable as is. But that is useful to know thank you :) . Now someday down the road I myself will know to avoid stirrups on bareback pads

I have a Best Friend's bareback pad and I love it :) It's like the Thinline one but a bit cheaper. It's cushy and gives the horse some padding from bony butts, and very comfortable to ride in :) No strirrups (which is good IMO), but has some d-rings in case you need to take anything along for the ride. :)

I bought a pad from a woman that makes them herself and OMG I LOVE it!

It has a wool felt underside, which is what drew me to it. My gelding doesn't love sheepskin, makes him itchy and I don't like neoprene much. She makes it with a "sticky" seat...my goodness does it feel secure. She has all kinds of color options and add ons you can get too.

It was a little more expensive then I ever thought I'd spend on a pad but it had EVERYTHING I wanted. The sticky seat, tons of d-rings, no grab handle (I feel those give false security) and of course no stirrups.

You can find her on facebook "Trailmaster Bareback Pads and Accessories" or www.trailmasterbp.com

I don't think I'd ever buy a bareback pad from anyone else now, I love this one.

Thanks you guys :)

From looking at them all there's so sizes listed. So are they a one size fits most type of deal? My sister has a stocky Morgan which is why I ask

The pad I listed does have some different sizes. But over all since theres no tree, its just a pad, its more or less a one size fits all. Some come in larger or smaller for the rider though. The only thing that you may have to change depending on size of your horse is the girth.

^ Yep. Basically a one size fits all. The one I have goes all the way to the top holes on both sides with my gelding. It's snug, but definitely not tight or really strapped down. Since I figure it's just there to basically keep my butt clean - I'm okay with it running a little looser.

I have heard switching girths can be fairly common. I think most you can get away with a regular western cinch. A friend of mine had one that you cinched the same as a saddle. I don't remember the brand anymore.
