I wasn't sure were to put this, thought it would fall under art as photography is an art. I need some suggestions for a nice digital SLR camera. I currently have a nikon coolpix, it takes decent photos, but its just not cutting it for what I need. I've had some requests to do animal portraits so I need something that won't leave me with blurry images. I'd like something a bit more "professional" but affordable and doesn't require too much fuss to get a good photo. My budget is under $650

I think my husband and I over researched this subject :) We ended up with the Canon Rebel T1i EOS 500. We wanted good close ups, landscapes, action in low light. It has image stabilizer. The trick is to get an extra lense. We bought the camera separate and then bought two lenses, not the one that comes with a package deal. We have the Canon 55-250mm lense and the 18-55 mm. I priced them online, at Costco etc. and the local camera store had the same price. Right around your budget. We bought it at the camera store and they have been great about answering questions. The manual is not that easy to navigate through. The store is actually giving a free class on our camera tomorrow and I got the day off work to go! I have still been using our point and shoot because the new camera has too many features. But my husband has gotten some fabulous photos of our kids sports events with the new one. Good quality from far away in questionable light.
