I'm looking at a used Billy Cook saddle for my husband. I've read extensively on the stamps to look for as far as one that is an original, one after Longhorn started making them, or a newer Sulphur, OK one. This one's stamps have me thrown for a loop though. I can't find any information on saddles with the stamp "Harness" where the "Maker" typically is. Anyone have any insight???

Thank you!

Stephanie

Not sure where you were looking but I found a leatherworker site...

An except from some posts..
Billy later started another shop in downtown Greenville making harness. It was called Billy Cook Harness. Eventually he started making saddles there too. He would work at Longhorn in the morning and go to the harness shop in the afternoon.

This is the link to that site I found this on...
Billy Cook saddle History - Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair - Leatherworker.net

Hope this helps clear up some confusion and more importantly I hope the information is true...
No way of knowing that unless you can corroborate it from several places...

Troy West, who wrote the post 1/2 way down the page this information is taken from, is a long time saddle maker in Texas and a member of the TCAA. I'd trust what he has to say. There is a good chance he knows Billy Cook personally, though I can't say that for sure.
