Weirdest thing I ever saw - has anyone else seen this?

I mean, I remember nature shows as a kid about the oxpecker birds hanging around on wild cattle/water buffalo getting the bugs, sort of a form of symbiosis and all. But I have never seen such a thing in my part of the country, now, or back when I lived on the west coast either. We certainly don't have oxpecker birds here! All last summer/fall after I got my horses out here, there was this random bird always hung around perched on Claymore's rump. Claymore seemed to totally ignore him. Many times I watched Claymore get down to roll, the bird would hop off onto the ground, and stand to the side, waiting patiently. As Claymore would finish and start back to his feet, the bird would hop back up. It would even be perched on him when he was laying down napping. It was there constantly. It would fly off and perch on the fence when he was being rode, but other than that it was there in it's customary place on his rump all summer/fall. Once it started getting cold, it disappeared and I figure it headed off where ever birds do. Pretty much forgot about it.

Today, I look outside and there is a bird again, perched on the same exact spot on his rump! Surely it has to be the same bird? It was never, ever on any of the other horses, just Claymore...and with Claymore's personality I would have never expected him to be willing to carry those scratchy little claws around on his rump. Plus, it's too early in the season to flies to be any kind of problem, and my horses certainly don't have any lice or ticks. Are they just buddies? *lol*

I'll try to get pictures of it tomorrow to post. I have no idea what kind of bird it is, I think it's black with a brown head. Anyone else have birds sit on their horses?
