i have this bit Route 66 Dogbone Bit and i got it from a friend to have and it doesn't move it just stays where it is. ive tried Vaseline to help it but it doesn't move! do i have to keep the bit looser its not tight but its not loose either.

The descriptions on the tack store sites say that it rusts. The rust is what's making it bind. You probably have to remove or smooth out a bit of rust somewhere to free it up. You can use steel wool. Or maybe a Dremel tool with appropriate bit. If the whole thing is rusted, you can boil it in cola (Any brand, diet or regular) but that will darken the whole bit, or at least any place on it where plating has rubbed off. The acid in the cola eats rust.

its not rusty its pretty new and not really used, its been sitting in one of my tack boxes all winter. my friend told me to use the Vaseline to get it to move but its not working..

okay so its a little rustier then i remember. its been sitting in the tack box most of the winter. it does move when i try to move it when its not in his mouth but not once i get it in his mouth.

I'd try soaking it in Coca-Cola and see if that removes the rust. It looks like it's got rust down in the holes where the mouthpiece slides on the shank, which is making it catch/stick.
