I've been considering doing a low trace clip on my mare for the winter. She gets pretty sweaty due to getting all worked up while riding and some days it seems to take forever to cool her out properly. Sometimes it is dark by the time I finish with her. Was thinking of just doing a low trace clip on her. To get the main areas that sweat and so she still has most of her coat left. Was wondering though? She is kept in a half covered outdoor pen in the San Diego area. What kind of blanket if any would I need before doing this? When it rains though I have noticed she likes to stay under the cover and stay dry.

How cold does it get? If it doesnt get really cold, then get a lighter weight turnout. Or you could layer a rain sheet with a light weight blanket. Just remember that rain sheets normally dont breathe, so it could be enough with just thatto keep her warm. Too much underneath the rain sheet can cause sweating.
