I am looking to board my 2 horses somewhere near Rockford, IL at a reasonable rate. If anyone knows of any place please let me know. I found one place but there are 17 horses there and when I visited they let them out to go to the pasture and they all took off running(what a beautiful sight!). My question is will my horses adjust to this many other horses and is this too many horses to be boarded at one location? They said they have 90 acres but it seemed like a lot all at once I guess and I'm worried about how my horses will adjust. They are used to it just being the 2 of them.

You can't say whether a facility has too many horses based simply on a number. You need also to know how much space they have. If they do have 90 acres, then I don't think 17 is too many at all. That should be plenty of room.

Given time, your horse should adjust just fine. Horses are herd animals and there is a hierarchy--after a couple of days, horses usually figure out their spot in the hierarchy and things are good.

I hope this answered your question~

They'll figure it out. It's good you have 2 so they already have a "group".

The larger the group the more likely they are to all "get along" (assuming the space is adequate). You usually see "my horse is mean" "my horse gets beat up" when there's only a couple in together.

It will definitely be a change, for you too, but not necessarily a bad one.

Hey, I have friends in Rockford! Not horsey people, but small world (I live in Manitoba, Canada).

I feel the psychological benefits of herd living far outweigh our human insecurities about how they will get on. 95% of the time they do far better without our interference. ;)

90 acres... What is the size if the fenced pasture? What kind of fencing? Are the horses already there happy & relaxed?
