So, i'm looking for a new show prospect, papered. I found a ranch I quite like, and I enjoy how they do it. You pick the mare, and you pick one of their stallions. So, Out of 19 mares and 2 stallions, I've narrowed it down to 3 mares and 1 stallion. So, prices will remain the same no matter who I pick. So, here we go.

I like Mare B! This is totally personal opinion, but if it were me mare C would be out because interbreeding that close bothers me... I mean I know a lot of people do it and its not frowned upon or anything, but its just me i guess!

Thank you for pointing that out! I went over the bloodlines on my phone in class today, so I didnt catch how close Mare C and the stallion are related! Thank you! I'm not the biggest fan of inbreeding either. I don't hate it and I realize most horses are nowadays, but, I'd rather not do it

Glad you feel the same way... is their any specific reason you are choosing this route rather than buying a foal already on the ground? Also what kind of showing are your hopes for the foal?

Well, I've wanted one from this breeder for a while as they have amazing lines and I just love how their foals turn out. However, they changed it to you pick the parents, instead of having the yearly auction. Which, is quite fun, but not as fun as I thought XD now I'm stressing over the pair I want! I kinda like Mare A because I love Palomino's and there's a chance the foal could be a Palomino, where as with B, it's Pretty much a guaranteed Sorrel...

I like Mare A's color but Mare B looks better conformation wise...however I am by no means a conformation expert. What ranch is this? I want to check it out just for fun!

I would go with B, except that she looks cow hocked in that picture (back legs rotate out). So, I would go with A, if B really was cow hocked -could be just that picture and the palomino might look better at a different angle.

Thats when you have to take into consideration would you rather have a sorrel foal with good conformation, or a colored foal with poor conformation... I don't necessarily like Mare A's confo that is why i picked mare B. I mean you have to take into consideration that these are brood mares so they may look a little rough sometimes lol. I would rethink your options if your really serious about this. Take your time and look through all your options thoroughly... when its all said and done conformation should be your first priority, because you are making a 30+ year commitment! Maybe start by narrowing it down to like 8 mares and go from there. If you put a little more time into researching each one individually you may find things that didnt stand out to you before! Ps. if it makes you feel any better about the color thing a Palomino is just a sorrel with a creme gene so you would only have a 50% chance of getting color anyway.

What type of showing will you be wanting to do? My answer would have to take that into consideration. For instance, if you wanted a WP prospect, mare B's neck is tied in pretty high....

Too many baby and young horses out there already. Even good parents doesnt mean good foal. Foal could have confirmation or other issues. I dont think I would be paying too much attention to any horse before it was born. Do some shopping and look at some horses that are alreeady here and pic one that meets your needs. Why shold you assume all the breeding risks ?

In all honesty, risk wise, I see this as no more risky than breeding a mare of my own. I know it's quite risky, as many things can go wrong.
I'm either purchasing a foal in-utero or buying a wild mustang from the BLM

I would want a foal cross that way. You have a mix of pleasure horses and working horses. What is it you want from a foal? What discipline?

Oh missed this. NON OF THE ABOVE. Now if you are looking for a trail horse these would do but then why breed for a trail horse? Non of these lines scream reining or cutting. Some of the lines would make a nice ranch horse rope horse but then the way they are crossing them not so much.

If your considerations are no more than, "I'm buying in utero or a Wild Mustang", go with the mustang. You can see what you're getting and it won't cost nearly as much in time, investment and risk. Buying in utero is something that needs to have serious consideration for the pairing and both parent horses should be well established in the disciplines you want to follow.
