I didn't know where to put this.

If you're looking for a hunter under saddle prospect that can take you to the bigger shows (Congress, World, etc) what specific things regarding conformation and movement do you need to look for?

You'll have more luck with the appendix style and while the really tall 17 hand and over horses are really in style, you can do fine with something as small as 15 hands in the youth classes. It's silly that size matters, but it does seem to.

1. At least 16 hands for the rail classes.
2. A good shoulder and hip angle.
3. Very flat front knee, no knee action.
4. Lots of "sweepy" movement and suspension in the gaits.
5. Deep driving hock and hindquarters.
6. Low, thin neck with a clean throat latch.
7. Top line for days.
8. Performance bloodlines. Anything Sky's Blue Boy, Irons are Hot, Ironman, All Time Fancy, Red Charisma, etc. depending on your association.

Current trends are: monster horses, anything 17hh+, and bay/brown horses.

You need to work with a trainer that is well versed in finding these types of horses, who can steer you right.

Or an owner/breeder who has background in it.

Look at bloodlines too, and both parents as well, show wins, movement, attitude.

I'd find trainer I liked and take their direction to find me one.
