Well I have a rodeo Saturday. I always seem to mess my horse and myself up in the alley and in the arena while running because I'm so nervous! Is there any good ways to calm myself ?

Take a deep breath and pretend you are at home doing it for the thousandth time.

I always forgot to breath during my runs and I would over ride my horses when I first started showing. Everyone goes through this when they first start, just do not over think things and try and stay calm. Just do it for fun right now, not to win.

An please, no drinking :)

lol Maybe wait a few years on that one..but I did get a laugh out of it.

I always just sit and talk with my horse for a few minutes after warming up. Stuff calming but assuring to myself.."I know we can do it. It's just like at home. I'd rather have a clean run than blow everything up. Focus.." Just quick things like that can make a BIG difference..

Thanks everyone ! :)
I always tend to get tense and I overreact so much right at first barrel and get hard hands when it isn't necessary (shouldn't ever be) and blow up the run because Im so nervous

1RedHorse , that made me laugh!

Just calm down, take a deep breath, and let your horse work...Don't focus on winning, focus on a clean pretty run..That's what will make you successful.

You just need to remember that it is no different from home. Do what you have worked on at home in the same manner at the rodeo. Remember to breathe, even if you have to have someone yell it at you as you enter the alley way. Depending on how long you've been training, the pattern should be second nature to you by now. Just go let it happen, instead of trying to make it happen.
