Hi, I was concerned about this foal who boards at my barn. He does not belong to me. He will be a year old some time next month (May). He chews on the wood A LOT. I had my camera with me the other day and decided to video tape him. When I watched it, it looked like he was actually eating the wood. Is that possible? I also wasn't sure if he was cribbing as well. I think I can see his neck muscles tense up and his abdomen extend but wasn't sure if he was actually sucking air.

Can anyone tell from watching the video? (Sorry, really bad video.)

Looks like the little guy is just chewing, not cribbing. When wood is around and it's not hot wired, it's not an uncommon pasttime at all.

Okay, thanks. I just found the amount of chewing he did to be a lot. I got a 10 month old in March '09 and he has NEVER chewed like this and is also in an all wood paddock.

I know for a fact this little guy gets fed regularly. Three scoops of pellets twice a day and I think a small amount of hay in the late morning.
