So this summer my gelding had two big bug bite welts on his topline. They went down, but 2 hard pea sized bumps remained. Today after I rode there were about 7 of them O.O I called the vet, he suspects Collagen Granuloma. He said not to worry and when he gets a chance to come out (he may be in the area next week) he'll inject steroids into the area and that should be it. I have read a couple articles about the condition, but figured I'd ask a couple more questions here

Is it ok to ride him or should I be wary of more popping up? What would you do?

I have definately ridden him since the two welts from summer...why did they choose today to pop out? Did I just happen to sit the right way in the saddle?

They don't bother him at all and as I said my vet didn't seem too concerned. When he does get a chance to come out (he also said it could wait until April when spring vaccines are done) what should I ask him? Are there any preventatives out there? How common is this condition?

Thanks.
