I am new to horse ownership in Calgary. I am wondering what your farrier charges in the Calgary area for a new set of shoes compared to refitting the same shoes a second time. I was quite surprised when my farrier told me that he charges the same price regardless of putting on a new set of shoes or not.

My farrier charges the same whether it's a new set or a reset, so long as they're 'regular' steel shoes. There's an extra charge for aluminum (which typically needs a new set every time) and probably some other specialized shoes.

Not from Calgary but shoes are cheap, unless they are special (i.e. aluminium).

A farrier might make an extra few dollars by not using a new set but really that is a pain to figure out per client so a set amount is better.

My farrier charges the same either way.

In Sundre it is $80 for new shoes.
