MAre and stallion having trouble 'covering'. mare just kicks back at ALL the stallions we try, any suggestions of what may help????:?
Don't think I would tranq in this case......she needs to be able to stand under the weight of the stallion........so needs to be fully alert.Or put the breeding hobbles on her. If she's maiden she might just be afraid too, in that case the vet can tranquilize her a little to take the edge off.
That's why I suggested A LITTLE to take the EDGE OFF not knock her out. I'm pretty sure the vet would have a good idea of how much dosing she could take and still be functional but not hysterical.Don't think I would tranq in this case......she needs to be able to stand under the weight of the stallion........so needs to be fully alert.

I agree, I have handled live covers with a dose of Rompin(sp?) with no problems. I was told by a vet that Rompin won't completely disable a horse but it seems to help them place and keep their hind legs placed. This was about 15 years ago, I am sure there is better drugs now and he may of been feeding me a line, I don't know, but it worked. That's why I suggested A LITTLE to take the EDGE OFF not knock her out.
