I currently ride in a Chavez and I love it. Granted, it helps a lot that it fits Java so well.

I checked out prices for a new one and YIKES! I forgot how expensive they were! I'm looking to buy another in the next few months and was curious if anybody knew were to get one used?

ETA: The saddle we have is fine, but it's technically our show saddle. Although, it's becoming the every day saddle. I'd like to get a working saddle and a show saddle in addition but I really don't want to pay $8,000 for two new saddles.

All I do is buy and sell a few horse things on ebay. The seller HAS to describe the product correctly. If they say it looks like new, and you get it and the leather's cracked/got holes in it, you can return it whether it's the seller's policy or not--EBAY backs you, not the seller. If they say it's a dale chavez, it HAS to be.

I bought a wintec isabell dressage saddle on there (new for about 1000) for 550 and it's gorgeous. :)

Good luck!

I live in english-land. It's a pretty far drive for me to find a nice western tack store.

I'm a bit timid to use eBay. Worried I'll get a crap product without being able to see it. :/
I can see how you would be shy to use eBay. If you have seen the saddle you want already, it will be the same thing thru eBay. Not to sound rude, but if you already know that ordering online is going to be your only option(you said there are no stores near you), then you might as well consider eBay. Otherwise, there are a lot of other stores online who will probably carry it as well for the full $4,000+

Cheers!

I know what it's like living in english land with no western tack around. I've been searching for a used saddle for a long time, and some places I have looked are tacktrader.com, kijiji or craigslist (just type in Dale Chavez kijiji or craigslist on google, it will pull up any of these saddles posted on those websites) equinenow.com, and horsetopia.com. Sometimes barrelhorseworld.com will have some pleasure stuff, but its mostly barrel saddles and tack.

ps, sorry for the bold. I have no idea why its doing that, and why it won't let me fix it :S

I wasn't sure if there was a tack consignment website or the like that I was unaware of. Ebay was definitely a consideration, but I wasn't sure if it was my only option.

The Mr. isn't too keen on spending $4,000. Haha! He'd rather ride bareback I think! :p

Thanks! This is just what I was looking for! I've done the Craigslist thing, but I didn't know there was such a thing as tacktrader.com!

I LOVE Dale Chavez Saddles! It's the only saddle I've been riding in for four years and I've grown pretty spoiled, because when I ride in a different saddle now am so uncomfortable..
If I would you I would defently buy a used saddle, plus those type of saddles in my opionion are a good invesment. I would type up "used saddles" on google and just flip through, it might take awhile to get a good one though, but so worth the wait!

I bought my English saddle on Tacktrader. It's worth it to go through ALL of the ads, even the ones with no pics, that's where you find the good deals at!!!

Unless your just set on a Dale Chavez you could try Corriente Saddles. They are made by hand in the U.S. I have one that I have ridden for years and I really like it. All the ones I have seen are of good quality and hold up well. They are about $600 shipped to your door.
