My poor boy has some pretty bad dandruff, and it looks awful in his black hair. My vet said to give him flax seed so I have been. Has anyone used it before for this and seen results?
I haven't used flaxseed specifically for dandruff, but it did make my horses' coats and hair healthier. Have you tried Head and Shoulders? That works really well...
yup i would suggest head and shoulders as well. having said that, its important to find the source of the dandruff. i found with my wb who had a prob with dandruff that hosing him down each time he had been sweating or on a hot summers day helped keep the dandruff under control.
also, too much washing with shampoos and conditioners can remove the essential oils from the skin and dry it out. this can cause dandruff too
Well its winter so he hasnt been bathed in a while and would also make using head and shoulders immpossible right now. Would using head and shoulders get rid of the dandruff permantly or just while using it?
hot oil treatment is probably a better idea considering the weather. as soon as possible though i would get some head and shoulders into him. even adding vegetable oil to his feed can help
