Hey guys,
I'm going to see this horse (as in viewing to buy) on sunday.
Only to be used as trail horse, possible light schooling.

One thing that does concern me is her belly.

It appears quite distended. I know that she lives out in quite a grassy paddock and with quite a lot of hay. I also know she is due for worming this weekend.

However, it does concern me. I'll be getting her vet checked if I like her.

She is a 4 year old OTTB.

What are your thoughts?

She looks like a sweetie, tho not very happy.
Apart from worms she could have teeth problems which can make it hard to chew all that roughage which in turn makes it hard to digest that fiber which then will cause that belly.

I imagine with better quality feed, worming, a teeth floating and decent work to build muscle you'd have a really nice horse.
Seeing the swirl down the neck, if present also on the other side, she could be a once- in-a- lifetime horse.

Thank you for your reply Desert, the reason I became so interested is she looks and sounds just like my heart horse who I sadly lost in January last year. I know she'd never replace her, but if she's anything like Indi, she'd be a star! Just concerned because Indi didn't have brilliant health, so concerned that she would be like her, personality and health wise...

I would suggest, as nice as this horse may look to you, that it is not fair to you OR her to get her and constantly be comparing her to the horse you lost. Perhaps you need a totally different looking horse. After all-health has nothing to do with the fact she may look like your other horse. But, it may always be in the back of your mind. Move on, for the good of both of you. You are paying lip service to the whole"I know she is not the same". You don't believe it tho. You are hoping she will be and that is not fair.
