I recently bought some horsey clothing and I bought a pair of breeches, they fit well but the store worker said that I should get a belt. I bought the belt maybe fore later use and because belts can come in handy although am I supposed to wear it for my lessons even if my breeches fit?

If you're dressing for lessons, you should ask your instructor. I ride English and I ride in whatever is comfortable, which is typically jogger style pants and a 3/4 loose-weave shirt. My barn doesn't care.

It's a different question if you're going to a show -- then you have to see what their dress code is.

It presents a finished picture when you tuck your shirt/blouse in wearing breeches.

Some manufacturers may feel fantastic walking around in breeches, but get astride and they seem to creep down and get not so comfy....the belt can help stop that happening.
I wore a belt with my breeches just like with my jeans I wear a belt....
I personally like the look.
If you don't want to wear a belt, then purchase beltless breeches that often have a wider waistband seen.

From what what I gather, if there are belt loops a belt should be worn in formal environments. Competition definitely but also some high end yards, hunts… that sort of thing. My yard is so casual I doubt people would notice if I rode in an old track suit. If it doesn’t have (too many) holes and (too much) slobber no one notices around here.
