Back in the 80's maybe the 90's there were formal and informal combination classes. This would have involved starting the horses driving and then change to English riding.

I am asking what you are referencing.

There is a combined driving competition similar to eventing. Driven dressage, marathon and obstacles. There is also a method of starting colts where one uses ground driving as an introduction to accepting and responding to commands with the use of lines or reins from the ground.

Maybe the Morgans or Saddlebreds had classes that combined riding and driving in a single class. I have shown horses I drive under saddle but it was in separate classes.
