So, I was attempting to trim my ponies mane this this afternoon, and well. Something happened and it ended up looking REALLY bad, so then I cut it a bit more to fix it up and a bit more.. I ended up with well.. this.. I'll have to get some desent pictures tomorrow, I didn't have my camera. So I took a video and took a screen capture. He looks really fail in this picture.. he was asleep, he also has his old halter on.. eww...

From this:

To.. well that...

My instructor wasn't too happy when she saw what I'd done to him. .. Fail.. she then asked me how I was meant to plait for dressage... Not quite sure.. Maybe I can sticky tape it on. Just thought I'd share. I was only meant to take like 1/2cm off. Anyone want me to trim their horses manes :D

Ah well, mistakes happen. On the bright side, I bet this will never happen again! :D I actually don't think it looks that bad...if you thin it a bit, you could probably band it.

And this is why pulling is always better than trimming lol
You could always just hog the rest of it to make him look a little better. Then when it starts to grow out and look weird you can just say you hogged it, not that it was a botched trim.

Trim my horse's mane and I'll find you and steal your horse!
It's never been cut and he's 3.5yrs! It's so long and pretty :D

hahahahaha oh dear! This is why we don't cut mane's to make them short ;) Cut to about 25cm long, then PULL it, otherwise you end up with that thick chopped off look that just looks terrible :S

By the time you're ready to compete him though his name will have grown back enough to be plaited as long as he doesn't rub it out. Otherwise you can do fake plaits, but they are a real pain in the backside to do and definitely not a case of just sticky taping them on lol!

You could always roach it the rest of the way, then let it grow out again, that way it would come back even.

^^ That would be my suggestion too. Do they frown on roached manes in the Dressage ring? If not, maybe keep it roached while you are competing and then allow it to grow back out during the off season.

LOL! Well, I actually think he looks pretty cute in his own special way! ;) Once, my friend was trying to trim some of my horse's extra little neck hairs, but didn't put the protectors on, and well, let's just say he ended up with a bald neck...RIGHT BEFORE THE SHOW! Thankfully, it was on the underside and only a thin strip

^^I don't think it's illegal, but it's not really common either, however, in this case, I think it would look MUCH tidier...Hahaha

If he's only doing PC level dressage roaching won't matter. But if he's going away for 3 months being trained, as I said before, by the time he's actually ready to compete, his mane would have grown to a reasonable length then you can get your coach or someone who knows how to pull to pull it so it's a more even length to plait with.

haha your just like me! My trainer said I needed to cut my horses tail.... It ended up at his hocks, LOL but it grew out.
Lmao don't worry, I used to have thick nice hair, and one day I just was sitting in my room and chopped it all off with paper siccors. Hahaha it's turned out nicely though :) I learn the hard way too, haha but the hard way is usually more fun! Me and my mom cut and trimmed and fixed my hair up at 10 at night, it was so much fun, even if I have to go around with short hair for a while.... Hahaha

My one friend did the same thing but left it a tad longer and it looks worse than if she were to just cut it all off.
