I understand its similar to diabetes in humans, but is it hard to control? Does it shorten their life span? Has anyone dealt with it before in their horse(s)? Going to look at about 4 horses today and one has EMS, but my trainer is confident it won't be a problem. Just wanted to get some personal info besides the articles I've looked up online.

It's all about management. Low sugar/ starch grass hay, little, if at all, alfalfa, no grain, vit/ min balanced according to hay analysis, exercise, limited grazing and a natural hoof care.
Home has details for a rather simple diet and management.
