I have an extremely small 3 year old who is learning to ride. She is only 26 lbs and her chest is only 17" in diameter. I cannot find anything near this small. Does anyone know where I can find one small enough, another alternative, or somewhere I can have a custom one made? Thank you!

This is always a problem with very small children.

My advice, which I suspect won't go down well with some, is not to bother. In my view the bulk of a body protector affects a child's natural ability to position and balance him/herself in the saddle to a degree that it's more trouble than it's worth.

Most small children don't go above a trot and ride ponies which are very sensible. If they can ride at faster paces or the pony's inclined to be naughty, that's a different matter. My daughter didn't wear a body protector until she was off the leading rein and could canter, and only then because I thought we should set an example - we never wore anything like that as kids although we always wore hats.

I'd be interested in what other parents think, too :)
