I will always remember my first jump: I trotted over a foot tall crossrail on Comanche and felt like I was flying! I want to hear about everyone elses first time jumping and what it was like! I know there will be some fun stories lol!

My first jump was over a muddy puddy on the super hyped up Arab I was riding with friends on a trail outing. He's a great jumper and barrel racer and we'd been looking for something to for me to take him over but found none. He didn't want to walk over a puddle so when I insisted he launched crossed it.

I quickly had my second jump on that same ride when we were riding in the washes (you know the empty dips in the land that water runs down with it rains) and he decided he didn't like it anymore and leapt about three feet up the wall of the wash. Course then he had to jump back down because there was no way else to get to the group without having to back track a long ways. I was ecstatic.

My first jump was an accident...my horse decided to jump the traffic cone rather than go next to it. first real jump was over a little log out on a trail.

My first jump I was trotting my mare over a 30cm "jump" if you can call it that. Anyway Arrow never jumps, so when she FLEW over the pole at one stage, it took me by surprise! So I tried her again, and she jumped it again! It was amazing!!!

I don't know if he actually jumped, but I beleive my old gelding lept over a narrow creek once. I haven't jusmped since then thougha nd that was like 2-3 years ago :-(

I just walked towards a creek, loosened the reins, caught the "thing on the western saddel- in the front" and closed my eyes... I survived In nature I usually DO jump, but I am not enough trained to du it at lessons. When I can, I walk around the obstacles, but if there is a neccessarity.... In lessons I tried few times, now about once a month with my little pony mare-she loves jumping... But really jumping training I had firstly about a year ago, on one old orlovian fox trotter, he was amazing, she jumped like 5 yo, even though he was 20 yo...

my first jump wasnt long ago even though ive been riding all my life ive always been to scared hah we went out for a hack the day after some really bad weather their was 4 of us and a tree had been blown over by the storma nd was blocking the way everyone jumped it forgetting that i´d never done it in my life and my mare who has reallybad separation anxiety decided she didnt care what she had to do as long as she wasnt seperated from the group so as i realised what she was about to do i just held on for dear life ............ AND LOVED IT!!!! haha since then i have benn practising in the ring and having lots of fun! also me and my horse have bonded lots!!!!!

I'm one of those idiots that started riding at a friends 3 months ago and didn't learn the basics properly so my first jump was my first time riding. :lol: (Not including walk and trot-on-lunge lessons aged 5.)

I was oblivious to the danger and jumped nearly 2ft I think? Anyway, needless to say I lost my confidence after many many falls. Got some lessons, learnt the basics, now jumping very small at about 2ft but finally cantering confidently too.

My first jump - I fell off. Second jump - she refused. Third jump - I stayed on but landed on her neck. And this was at a riding school! Needless to say I left there a long time ago :S
I asked my friend who learnt to ride there too and she fell off on her first jump on the same pony...
I think this contributed to me being terrified of jumping about 2 years ago, but that was also because of the horse I had (and still have), he knew exactly how to scare me to death. But he definately doesn't scare me now!

I was on the brattiest most amazing horse in the world! We were jumping a TINY little crossrail.... I don't remember the exact size, but it was tiny! Anyway, we trotted up to it. Sam stopped and about 5 seconds later he hopped the jump like it was 3 ft! We looked horrible, I am positive, but I had a blast, and my trainer had so much fun mocking me about for the next 2 years!

Dougal had his first EVER jump at Pony Club in the summer. He ran straight through it! He didn't actually understand he had to go over it, poor sod. He did get over it a couple of times after that though. He's done drops and water jumps on the XC course as well, and even jumped a little log!
Since then he has done some jumping on the lunge but i'm staying away from the jumping until he learns to canter properly and matures a bit.
My own first jump probably wasn't very interesting, haha.

Well, I had my first jumping lesson but, we went down there & warmed up on the flat & it started to rain & got harder & harder.My instrutor let me jump a few times & then we ran up to the barn soaked!It was quite the experience.

Mine was on a half warmblood and Lippizan i think and her name was Della. She was the sweetest nicest horse. We jumped over a tiny hay bale. Sadly she died about 2 or 3 yrs back. Rest in Peace Della!

At my old old riding school I used to ride a little grey mare about 13-14hh? but one day after i had ridden they put me up on a big bay which seemed huge (but was prob abound 15-16hh) to have a jump. There were no stirrups on the saddle and they didnt bother putting them on and my helmet was to big so they lead me over this little jump (40cm?) and i popped over and my helmet fell over my eyes but i managed to stay on haha then we went over again but this time after the jump i rolled off in slow motion hahaha but i was fine =D

Heh, my friend was leading me at a trot on her 25-year-old Arab gelding when we were maybe 10-11 years old. The log was a good 18 inches, I was pretty exhilerated! Heh.
My first "official" jump was at a lesson, just a little baby crossrail. I was left way behind and I didn't like it very much.

My first jump was a true accident. We went out riding in an old pasture one one of the first spring days of the season. Being we were riding old old old lesson horses my instructor knew very well she thought it was fine. The older blind in one eye paint flipped out, causing my little paint to flip out, take off, and take me flying over a pile of 8 or 9 gate style jump standards. This caught my attention and no one has been able to get me off the back of a horse since.
