Critique welcome, where did it all go wrong?
I'm going to try the smooth side of the watercolour paper next time, I don't think working on the rough side helped much!
You're right, they are hard!! I got so excited with having them and then got frustrated when I started using them, some lines didn't want to bleed, it dried super fast, argh! It's hard to work with these, I know. I think you need to think of them more as pencils, with some "bleed" to them. So, don't have all of the lines bleed, keep some as colored pencil marks, and let others bleed. you will need to do more than one piece before you cast judement on these, they are not easy.
Oh no don't worry about it, it's good to see an example to help me understand how they work without wasting paper. What paper did you do the shepherd on? I did the horse on watercolour paper and it still crinkled, I must have got a bit carried away with the water when the colours weren't bleeding like I expected them too...
Yeah I bought the Derwent tin of 24, I'd read some good reviews/seen some good review videos but they are a lot harder than they let on! I was a bit silly expecting an "apply water and the pencil will bleed perfectly" effect.![]()
I've just done a mixed medium piece with pen and inktense. I like how it's turned out, even though it's quite simple. I'll post it on my thread in a few days, my boyfriend has my cameraI used my usual paper; 140lb cold pressed watercolor paper. I think these pencils might work better on a hot pressed paper, which has less texture to it.
