So we had a fantastic session on groundwork-- too much rain for anything else all week -- but I had a connection with my horse like never before, and two days later we're at the show. I know one serious problem was not enough warm-up time-- but anyway, I never got her attention! Just a First Level Tr.1 class.

First we did some groundwork; then under saddle, did leg-yields, shoulder-fore, halts etc. but all while watching the world bustle, as if I weren't there at all. As soon as I'd ASK for something, like trying to straighten her, she'd come unhinged as if to say, Leave me alone! I can't think! Ready to blow. So I'd back off. At home she has to be pushed, so the "show behavior" isn't something I can work on without going out.

What would YOU do in this last-minute, show-must-go-on situation?

Do more schooling shows, don't even pay to do classes, just haul your horse there, hang out get her used to it.
