Hello! I just purchased my horse last week, a 13 yr old QH. She is a wonderful all around horse trained in HUS and Horsemanship. I can get a nice working "fast" trot with her but her canter is the very slow western lope. How can I get her to do the more English style as opposed to her slow Western lope.
Thanks!

My guess would be ask for more stride. Maybe even hand gallop (if you can do it safely) and then bring him back down to a canter.

I can't help you but I have the opposite problem. I want Dancer to be slow but he likes going fast.

A lot of western pleasure trainers teach pleasure horses to extend their gaits by using a shhh shh shhh shhh shhh sound and a humming sound to bring them back down to a slower pace. When you ride your horse, ask her for a lope. Once she picks up that gait, do the shhh sound to Get her to extend it. Apply pressure and get her to pick herself up.
