I have an almost 3 QH mare and she has a nice shiny coat, but it's fuzzy like it won't lie down. I was wondering if anybody had any tricks to get her to slicken up before show season. I know diet is not an issue like I said she is shiny just not slick. I was thinking of adding oil to her feed. any suggestions????

The first thing to do would be start rugging her. That should help keep the hair flat and it will also keep bugs off. If she is hairy, I would suggest going over her with a curry comb or a slick 'n' easy block.

Without doing the obvious of clipping, as posted above, blanketing is your only other option. She'll start shedding a bit sooner and hopefull that wild hair will tame down enough to make it look a little better for you. Also, never under estimate a good grooming every time you go out and see. It help get rid of all the dead hair, keep her coat cleaner and and hopefully within a couple weeks, make it a little more slick.

Good Luck.

You could try a grooming spray, or what I SWEAR by, an oil product for the coat.

I personally use Hi-Shine hot oil. I give him a full treatment after a bath, then dilute some with water and use it as a grooming spray. His coat has never looked better, and it's because it is healthy, not just shiny.
