Getting into western riding?
Ok I was thinking of starting western riding with my little pony Patch here he is

and I was just wondering do you think this is a good set to start off with?

I just will be doing trail riding in a western saddle basically but I want to teach him to neck rein and all and eventually work up to riding in a curb bit and all like that

If you're just going to trail ride you should be perfectly fine with english training. The only problem with going from english to western is that the hroses often won't take the extra weight very well. The western saddle covers more of the back and makes them feel unbalanced, or at least until they get used to having it.
