Hey Everyone !

So i just measured Indigo for his girth, and i followed this to do it.

And i got 68, when i measured him... so i followed the calculation thingy to get the real girth size, and i got 34... than i took 3 away and i got 31...

That can't reallly be his girth size CAN IT ?
it just seems so small....
Indigo is a 16.2HH, high withered OTTB...
here is a picture... do you think that this is accurate?

If you are measuring for a western cinch, then I bet it is pretty accurate. Though he is tall through the chest, he isn't very thick like most stock type horses that are ridden in western saddles. I use a 30 on all my horses and the only horse that it is almost too small for is Pokey (who is about 15.2 and 1200 pounds).

If you are measuring for an english girth, then yes, that is way too small.

Judging by the website description I'd assume that measurement is for a short girth or cinch- (as in dressage girth)
My horse is a quite rotund draft cross and he uses a 32" dressage girth. Which thankfully is starting to get too big!

I think this sound exactly right. But generally you will not find a 31 they normally ocme in even numbers. So a 32 would be really good for your horse.

I like my buckles to be as low as possible. I don't want them under my leg. Even my western saddles are converted to a english and the girths are kept short. I would put the saddle on the horse and borrow a girth and go from there to get one that puts the buckles where you actually want them. I want to use the holes near the end of the billets. My little arabs use 24 inch girths so you 32 would be close but again I would try it actually on the horse.
