:DWell like the title says I had a great lesson! I'm finally sitting up more in the canter! As in right where I should be not a bit leaning forward like I usually am. Steering at the canter is getting easier too. Now if I could just get it through my head to tighten my grip on the reigns! They always slip through and I have to tighten them Lucy is great:) she doesn't take off or anything (at most she tries to "miss a corner" and go out the gate) but I still need to tighten my grip in case I ride another horse who isn't as awesome as Lucy.so any tips? I try to make fists but always end up relaxing too much.

Well why do you lose them in the first place? Figure that out and then think of ways which you can prevent that from happening.

Just be aware of your thumbs. Ultimately it's the thumb that keeps your reins from slipping. Squeeeeeze those thumbs. Play with it a bit. If you overdo it, and don't have supple following elbows, you will be impeding your horse's mouth. The more you squeeze with those thumbs, the more supple your elbows need to be. As you will soon find, out, when you fix one thing in your riding, it only unearths a new problem!

thta's another thing I forgot to mention when I tighten up on the reigns my elbows get tight too because the tension has to got through my elbows to get to my hands, I'm trying to make the tensiion go PAST my elbows. Thanks! I'll remember that thumbs thing!

I lose them because I don't hold them tight enough so they slowly slip.
