Any tips on how to save money with owning a horse? Any tips on saving money with your first horse? Thanks!

Amen to that one, sister! As soon as I save money - it's gone... to the farrier, the vet, the feed store, the trainer, the instructor, the tack shop (I have an addiction), the auction house... or hair dye. No. The hair dye is not for the horses LOL!
Just save up all your change, and coinstar it every now and again. It adds up!
I agree with Paintspwn, everytime you get loose change back from a cash purchase, put it into a jar and roll it now and again. Adds up overtime!
I also agree with the others - Once you own horses, they spend your money for you! : ) You could buy your tack used though.

Honestly its rough sometimes this month alone Ive spent over $500 in emergency vet calls ughhhh. Although difficult nothing is impossible. This is what I have done that has helped me out a lot!
I started separate bank accounts one for my horse, one for saving and one for my other bills. This way I can keep all of my money separate and going towards the right things. When I get paid I take a majority of it and split it down the middle and put half in Jacks account and the other half for my billing account. I then take the leftover and put it in my savings (which I do not touch once it goes in there). Its really hard to save but not impossible...I just work my butt off to do it ....3 jobs
Once you get a horse try going to tack consignment stores to get a saddle, pads, blankets, etc. Look for a place to board where you can do feedings 3x/week in exchange for cheaper board. I do every spring vaccinations that I can so I can eliminate the cost of having a vet come out. Go on the internet and find ways to make home remedies for stuff like hair detangler or fly spray. Buy in bulk (may be more expensive at first but it will def pay off in the long run). Goodluck!

Well, the simple way I do it is five bucks a week (or ten if you get paid every other week) into my savings account. I try my absolutely hardest not to touch it, but I usually do anyway, and then the next week replace what I took plus the next weeks funds. I have to say, getting my tax return saved my a$$!! I was able to afford a new saddle without taking a hit to my bank account and still put an extra hundred dollars away.
All in all, its just very careful and responsible managing of funds. Watch your spending, prioritize and don't buy what you can put off till next week, next month, whatever once you have a little more saved. Idk, just be an adult about it?
