Gullet Sizes

Hello!

What size would a 7/12" gullet be? Would it be medium, medium-large, large, etc.? Or is that not how it works? Not that simple?

Please go easy on me I'm clueless. I'm trying to get my first saddle that isn't used and warped!

(My budget is 500)

(Western barrel saddle)

Unfortunately, it is not that simple. Different brands use different terms and measurements. Also, fit has a lot to do with the angles of the bars, and rock. Look up Rod Nikkel on youtube. He has a lot of helpful videos

I keep this in my notes to refer to and have on hand.
From the Nikkel site:

We are no longer building saddle trees. We have two saddle fit videos available on our westernsaddlefit.com website. Western Saddle Fit - The Basics, aimed at riders, is available either on DVD or streaming on Vimeo while the six hour series Well Beyond the Basics, aimed more for professionals but understandable by anyone, is available by streaming on Vimeo. (We left this website up because we have had many requests to keep the information available.)

I’ve been looking at western saddles for my gaited horse, and as an English rider, I’ve never really learned about western saddle fitting. So I’ve been struggling to purchase one out of fear that I’m buying the wrong size for him. This site is gonna come in handy!!

if you are trying to fit a saddle to your horse.. get a wire coat hanger, untwist the top open it up to a straight line. place it over your horses withers down to the shoulder as far as it reaches. There is the mold for your horse.

Okie dokie guys I figured out the size I need!! <3 Thank you!
My next question is....what type of saddle do you think my current one is? Trail? I love the low cantle and want one similar but fits my horse! (this one is not my horse....but it is my saddle lol)
Having trouble finding a cantle this low. I got this one on FB Marketplace and it didn't come with any info it doesn't even have the brand on it
