I came home all excited and could not wait to tell someone about my day, seeing as I only had my non horsey boyfriend to tell it turn into more of a lesson then a happy moment for me so I wanted to share this with people who will understand. Also I would love to hear your similar horse related stories, whatever your discipline.

Yesterday me and drumrunner went to Undaila to practice (you can go down there anytime during the week and they will set up the clock and all for $10 a horse), anyways I have been having some issues with my second barrel on my mare ever since she recovered from her injury.

I thought it was due to my terrible seat around the second barrel (I have been leaning in on the 2nd for god knows why), so I figured if I just corrected my seat that would fix things.

So yesterday when we got there I did a few slow runs and even after planting my butt and staying centered she was still blowing the outside of her turn, not as bad but still not a smooth turn.

I then started to worry that she was having the issue because of "hurting" but when I asked for drumrunners opinion she said my mare was not acting like it was a hurt (no ears back no nothing) but that it was like she was getting her feet mixed up or something.

I then went through the pattern again and noticed she was picking up the wrong lead going into the 2nd barrel, how I did not notice this before I have no clue.
I then walked her down and really planned out what I was about to try.

After a little time I let her go, first barrel was beautiful (like always), and this time heading to the second barrel I kicked her only with my right foot forcing her to pick up her correct lead and the 2nd barrel ended up being so smooth and so fast that I was not prepared, I was so shocked I about came out of my saddle!
I threw myself back in the seat slowed her up then did the pattern again for the last time.

I can honestly say I have finally figured the heifer out!

She ran the prettiest and cleanest pattern ever in her whole career.

I think it is so funny how we start of training our horses and teaching them how to do things when in the end they end up training us and teaching us things!

She has been screaming "JUST RIDE ME RIGHT AND I WILL DO IT" but I'm just now hearing her.

So thankful for my mare, she may not be the fastest thing out there but she has a lot of heart and I love her to pieces.

I also think she rather loved me yesterday.
After I unsaddled her I let her roll around in one of the holding pens beside the arena while drumrunner practiced. She rolled about 5 time and was covered in dirt but she was very happy :)

This is a picture I snapped of her after unloading her off the trailer, she is a roller so that explains the dirt.

Congrats Sierra! It's always great when you have those moments of clarity. It's even better when they are easy fixes. Glad to hear you had a great day!

Penney scared the crap out of my horse when she was rolling...I was running out and Penney jumped up beside the chute and Nikki thought something was coming to eat her..
