I run the Halloween contest for the Triple B Riding Club. We've had some great costumes over the years. This year my daughter is going to be an evil fairy. She is wrapping her white TN Walker in plastic ivy. I'll get pictures of it on Saturday. Meanwhile, here are some fun costumes from other years. The first one is the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse--death, famine, plague, war.

What you going to be? Plans?
I don't normally "dress in costume", but may put on a witch's hat for a bit...
Have to work so not going anyplace...

Favorite candy?
I love KitKat candy but my doctor wags a finger at me and says, "No, not anymore"...so leaving my passion behind. :frown_color:

Memories?
As a kid going through our neighborhood with friends just laughing and having fun.
We never did any damage to homes or cars...never crossed our minds to do such things.
We used to have flour sock "fights"...learned never to use my dads socks as they were larger than mine but thick and never let the flour through the tightly woven material...
I was always "floured" to death...but it washed right off..

Favorite scary movies?
I don't like scary movies ...horror films are also not my thing.

Of course pics. Horses most definitely.
As a kid my horses would spend the afternoon and evening at my parents house in their backyard, safe.
About 11:00 PM my dad would walk with me to the barn and light the way putting the horse safely away and help check the barn no one did anything that could create havoc.
Some thought is fun to let them loose, open fence gates, chase them towards the busy street which scared me senseless after the first episode...never again. And we always padlocked their feed bins so no one could be so stupid...

Any pictures I have are from real film camera so no pictures do I have to share...
Never decorated my horse though honestly...

In this day with so many crazies, kids here don't go door-to-door besides it being to far between homes.
We do a trunk-or-treat in the park for the kids the weekend prior closest to the day if Halloween is not on the weekend itself.
Those wanting to "celebrate" back their cars up, some decorate and dress-up, the kids come along and trick-or-treat like this...
No candy has ever been found tainted...
Our schools have dances and a party for all the kids to go to that afternoon if they are permitted...
It may not and usually is not on Halloween itself, unless that day falls on Friday afternoon...

Plans?

I've been persuaded to go to a local samhiunn party. I'll probably wear a witch costume.
I might decorate, as a few children moved into the area and I think their parents are planning to take them guising. My next door neighbour still puts out his creepy tattie-bogle scarecrow so i'll do some neep lanterns, a wreath and my old broom.

Favourite Sweets?

I like a little bit of fudge, tablet or chocolate. When I was younger, anything chocolate, cola cubes, jelly babies, violets, sour plums.

Memories?

I remember my school parties, as i didn't go around the houses. They were fun but it was 'Dookin’ for apples that stayed with me, as i hated putting my face in the water LOL!

Favorite scary movies?

I've no favourite scary movies! I can only 'watch' if I've someone with me to hide behind!

Wow time flies. A place for all things Halloween.

What you going to be? Plans?

Staying home. Halloween isn’t a big deal here in the Philippines. But November first, All Saints Day is. The roads are crowded, families gather at the cemeteries to spruce up family crypts and graves. There is a loud party atmosphere to it all. Lots of amplified music, food and alcohol fueled enthusiasm. I don’t care for loud noise, crowds or the drink till you drop bunch. I stay away.

Favorite candy?
Always chocolate.

Memories?
Mostly tales my dad told me of pranks he and his buddies played when they were young.

The houses in his little town had different colored picket fences in the front yards. My dad and his buddies would take one color gate and hang it on a different color fence, until all the fences had the wrong color gate on them.

One neighbor had a flat roofed barn. They made a ramp of scrap lumber, hitched his team to the wagon, an drove it onto the roof. They unhitched the team and put them back in the barn, leaving the wagon on the roof.

We were stationed in Germany for many years. There, October 31st is called Hexenacht (witches night). Witches play many pranks on people that night.

I went to my car one November 1st to go to work, and found a brush fence had been built around my car overnight.

I dismantled the thing as the German neighbors watched to see my reaction. I made a show of muttering to myself, occasionally exclaiming “Verdamt Hexen !” To the amusement of the neighbors.

Favorite scary movies?
Nah. I used to like the old Karlov, Lugosi, and Price movies
.
Got the “message too short “ warning. Maybe this is enough text after the quote.

Time sure does fly.

No plans this year. Usually my DC and I carve pumpkins in ever increasing levels of difficulty. Not doing it with these two here unless there dad is physically present. They should be moved into a rental by Nov 1st so it may be we are hauling their stuff for plans. The neighbors spoiled us as their daughter was a pastry chef and would come up with all sorts of themed holiday goodies. They moved to San Antonio so new neighbors.... They have a 7th grader so maybe a bon fire????? Nobody in the history of my experience with Halloween has ever given out my favorite candy so I am not much tempted. No scary movies for me. The closest I will get is Svengoolie, the Little Shop of Horrors or Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I'm a member of the 501st (and Rebel) Legion. They're a Star Wars costuming club that does a LOT of charity work, appearances, etc. I'm actually doing a hospital troop this year. Missed last year because I had classes, and the year before because I'd just had surgery, but this year, the stars aligned and I'll be visiting the hospital with a few others to help the hospital kids with their trick-or-treat day. I've done quite a few hospital troops (as recently as last month) and will be wearing my Biker Scout. This weekend (18-20th) is the Boo At the Zoo when our local zoo has a big three-night Halloween party for kids and it's my third year doing it since the 501st gets invited every year. I was Visas Marr the last two Boo at the Zoos, but will be rockin my Scout trooper.

Previous Boo at the Zoo

This year ....

Halloween night, I'll probably put the Scout trooper back on to hand out candy for the kids in the neighborhood.

Favorite candy?
Candy corn, usually. Or gummy things. I'm not really crazy about caramel or chocolate.

Memories?

So many memories of all the homemade costumes I've had. Of the time when I was at my uncle's house and he does interior design, etc. so they had all these shop tools and I wanted to be Artemis, the Goddess of the Hunt, so he made me a real wooden bow right then and there. It was cool.

Favorite scary movies?

I just NOPE NOPE NOPE right outta there on scary/horror movies. NOPE!

No specific plans for anything. Son wants me to go watch Doctor Sleep with him though. I don't even know if it'll be out by then, but surely it will be.

I'm surprised that so many don't do horror flicks. I think I'm jaded though because they're more hokey than they are horror. Haven't had a movie scare me in years and even the old ones that I thought were scary in my younger years aren't if I watch them now. Some of Stephen King's movies could be if they stuck to the script of the book but they always change it to make it less.

No kids around here to come trick or treating so we'll not be doing a thing. Can't really name a favorite candy because it changes depending on what I'm in the mood for. It usually involves chocolate and nuts though. LOL

As a kid mom and dad would load us up in the car and take us to trick or treat at our great aunts & uncles and grandparents. That meant having to stay and visit at each place so that took up the whole evening. Never really bothered me not to be turned loose to go from door to door because it meant so much to the old folks to see us kids and they usually had lots of treats for us. Not only candy but we'd have to have something to eat and drink at each place.

Then my nieces and nephews started coming along and they came to visit us. Dad was in his element fixing up something to scare the kids down in the basement closet every year. It usually involved scary music starting to play and something flying out at them when they opened the door.

Not sure what I'm going to be.... I should be something. Going to New Orleans for a few days with some friends... not a huge fan of crowds so not sure why I said yes. But she asked pretty please so I will go and have fun... think I'll hit the thrift store to see if I can find anything...

Favorite candy?
ANY!! I love all candy! Even the smarties!

Memories?

My Uncle's Halloween party and treasure hunt! Every year they would go all out and everyone even the adults would dress up. The treasure hunt would be awesome, it would take you at night through the scary woods with things in there to scare you more!

Favorite Scary movie?

Oooh that's a toughie... The Birds, Psycho, Jeepers Creepers, Texas Chainsaw, Saw oh too many to name!

Favorite memory:

The year my best friend and I decided to go as horse riders (we were city kids, got to take a lesson here and there but didn't own horses/ride frequently). I had breeches and paddock boots, she wore leggings and her sister's hiking boots, we both had helmets. NEVER HAVE I EVER HAD BLISTERS LIKE THAT NIGHT! I was basically crippled from them by the 2nd neighborhood. Kept going though.... Moral of the story.... Don't wear paddock boots trick or treating!

I grew up in a small rural village (still live there) and I can remember riding triple on our Shetland pony Whinnie when we were young since we got tired of walking to all of the houses. My Mom and Dad would lead us and we would either all 3 ride her or take turns. As I got older I have worn various costumes. Been a Cowgirl more times than I can count.

We don't have a lot of kids in our village and I live down a lane at the edge of the village - the other 2 houses don't usually give out candy so if I get Trick or Treaters I reward them generously for coming down here. I love the kids in their costumes.

My favorite Halloween candy is homemade popcorn balls

No plans. Our local theater puts on an event where they play two campy horror movies from the 50's-60's. You pay $5 to go see them both and get unlimited cokes/popcorn. I went one year, it was a hoot. But this year it's on Thursday and I don't want to stay out that late. This year it's "Billy the Kid vs. Dracula" and "Night of the Blood Beast"

We get no kids in our area cuz it's so rural. So it will be a quiet night. Might watch a good scary/horror film though.

Favorite candy?

All of it, LOL. But I don't eat much of it any more. Trying to limit my sugar intake so I don't put on too many more pounds. :icon_rolleyes:

Memories?

My friend and I when we were in Jr. High, I think, made a haunted house in her garage ... it was loads of fun. We didn't get too many people, but we had a blast with it anyway.

Favorite scary movies?

I don't like slasher movies, but love ghost-type movies and the old Universal Horror films. A favorite as a kid was Legend of Hell House. The Exorcist can still give me chills. Love Carrie, Poltergeist, Se7en, The Omen, Re-Animator ...

Of course pics. Horses most definitely.

Don't have any pix of Halloween, but have some from freestyle reining (which we did at Halloween) ... with my homemade costumes :

Ok - how about most awful Halloween candy. I never thought I'd ever but one of the teachers was passing out M7Ms. Everyone got a hand full. They looked like peanut M7Ms so I popped them in without question. They were the most awful things I have ever put in my mouth. Not peanut. They were CANDY CORN bleeck, bleeck, bleeck....

I had my halloween today. Took some candy out to the barn and munched on it while i painted my horse as a skeleton. Liquid latex and fake blood for me. I’m sure i got the anatomy of the skeleton on him all wrong but he was tolerant enough to stand still while i attempted this so i wasn’t gonna try and perfect it haha.
