I worked with a QH filly, even named her (Barline's Special aka Special). The lady sold her right from under my nose after telling me that I could make payments on her. The worst part is that she went to someone who was on the news for abandoning her and thirteen other horses and they all nearly starved to death. I filled out an adoption form for her and was put on a waiting list but someone ahead of me picked her. I was devastated.

I am so sorry. The only thing I know is that grief is cylical- you will go through anger, denial, depression, bargaining, and acceptance over and over as you move to accept this loss. If there is anything I can do, let me know.

that happened to me about a month and a half ago. this horse i had bonded extremely well with and had partially trained got sold. I didn't own her so I couldn't prevent it and I didn't have $5500 to buy her.

It does happen, and it will hurt for a while. My wonderful mare gave her heart in her work and recently had to be put down after reaching the ripe old age of 42. I miss her everyday, but there will be more horses that you will bond with just as much.

Thank you all. It's very hard, I just found out that she is being sold for 2,500. I would hand over that much money for her, and more if that's what it would take to get her. But I just don't have the money. I partially retrained her, she was a victim of abuse by her previous owners, and she began to trust me that I was able to ride her after only 2 weeks of working with her. Because at that time, I was going through some really hard things, and she helped me through it. I've already cried a lot, and she isn't even gone yet. I just am worried that she'll go to a new home that isn't good, and get abused again.

She deserves so much better.

Huh? Selling a horse isn't abuse or mistreatment - It is just how the horse world works. if you didn't own this horse you had no claim on her and you knew that. Don't badmouth the people selling her.

I'm not badmouthing anyone selling her, I'm talking about if she doesn't go to another good home. Keyword, if.
