Hi, my wife and I are just getting back into horses after 25 year (raising kids and careers) , allot has changed. We are in south central Pa near Lancaster. Jul is taking lessons and I am planning a barn, fencing and all the fun stuff. We have about 4 acres and want 2 horses in the back yard here to enjoy. We have access to hundreds of acres of trails and the river hills to explore right here in our back yard, probably would not even need a trailer!! I am considering a Friesian for myself, I love the look and from what I read they are very loyal and calm. I am a big guy and need a big horse I am 6'2 and 230 lbs any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all, this is a great site to learn and get ideas

Welcome to the forum Scott! Your plans sound fantastic and I envy you such easy access to trails. There are a boatload of great people on here who have an amazing amount of advice to offer so definitely take advantage!

Another breed you might consider is a draft or a draft cross. They are wonderful!

Howdy from Texas! How wonderful for you and your wife, there's nothing like having your horses in your backyard. Quarter horses are great, too. I've seen many a big cowboy around here on 'em and they do very well. Gotta post some pics when y'all get the horses.

Welcome to the forum. My hubby is the same height, just a few pounds lighter, & he has ridden some of my horses-a 15.3 Peruvian Paso mare, a 15 H Paint mare, a 15.3 QH mare, so don't think you have to limit yourself. There have been a lot of "size" threads & the consensu is-try the horse, & get one you feel safe with & can fit w/the appriate tack. The bigger horses can really be an issue to fit. Your accomidations sound lovely-lucky you!
