Hi everyone!
You may have known me ,from reading threads, about me possibly purchasing a horse. I really wanted my own. But now i am having a bit of a dillema:/ I know this may sound cheezy, but here it goes. I have been praying to God to get a horse for a long time. But i have always had some doubt inside me that i couldent do it. So of course i prayed and asked God what i should do (i prayed this awhile ago too). But for some reason this idea of trying leasing again, popped in my head right when i woke up this morning! For some odd reason i was loving the idea! Monday night i did so great at my lesson on this horse that is kinda crazy, i was SO excited. So i guess that was Gods way of telling me to lease him?

Anyway.. In case you are wondering why i said "try leasing again" is because last time it did not work out to well. This horse i leased was a school horse that got ridden like 6 times a week by other people, and i was not fond of that at all:-(. Plus, me and the horse didnt "bond" very much. He was kinda like a robot, he knew everything! He had NO personality! But this new horse i am riding...i love him! He is full of spunk, crazyness, and a lot of attitude:lol:! So i thought i would enjoy leasing him much more..plus i could work on getting ready for the schooling shows(he is a school horse but only gets ridden by 2 other people every week).

I have been riding for three years. I am a Hunter/Jumper. I am in the Primary level. In case you wanted to know..i have always been afraid that i wouldent be able to sell my horse (if i got one) when i go to college(not for like 4 yrs though) And if i just leased for that whole time instead of my own horse...a lot of my really good friends are leasing, so i wouldent be lonely this time:)

Sorry this is soooooooo long! So what should i do lease for a long time or buy????

Thanks for reading this long thing!:D Feel free to PM me if you like!

I lease right now and I love it! I get the responsibility of having my own horse but the bills are cut in half, and I don't have to do everything by myself.

Leasing can be an excellent option. Just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. What are you responsible for both in daily duties and money wise. Are you responsible for vet and farrier costs? Dewormer? Cleaning the stall? Or are you just paying a fee and that will all be included?

Great to hear! At my barn it is about $325 a month to lease. Includes 1 lesson per week, and up to 3 non-lessons a week. If you lease for more than 6 months though the price goes down to $300. We can not jump during non-lessons. And we dont care for the horse at all, other than getting to ride it on assigned days (other people in there lesosn still ride it) and grooming and stuff.

I'd say go for it. I did this with a pony, then moved onto a more experienced one, took that pony on a free lease and now 11 years later still have the old fart. They gave her to me three years in.

How about lease/loan with view to buy? That way you can bond with the horse, get used to looking after it and make the big decision of whether you want to buy it or not after a while.
