So I've been saddle shopping for about 5 months now? and I absolutely hate it! I'm in the Pony Club and would like to eventually do eventing with my mare, so i need a saddle that has knee rolls, and that I'll be able to use for awhile. I had an old school crosby that was a close contact with no knee rolls, used it on my TB mare for a couple of months and at the beginning it fit fine, but when she started to get fit it just ended up pinching her...sooo I had to sell it. So now I'm stuck and haven't really found a saddle. My friends have let me try their saddles, one was a cambridge(sp?)(MD tree) from when they were made in england and it seemed to fit her pretty well(i jsut didn't like it because it didn't have knee rolls) and the other was a collegiate(MD tree) which seemed a bit too tight on her withers. Really interested in the collegiate saddles, HDR, and the dover circuit ones. My price range is under 1000(I know not very high, but I'm a poor college student), the cheaper the better. Please help and tell me anything you know...reviews of saddle brands would be wonderful!

Kate,
Have you tried looking on tacktrader.com sometimes you find really nice ones that arent that expensive. If you already know what you want or have one in mind that is one way to go without breaking the bank. Also , I am pretty sure Fisher's carries collegiates....sometimes they have used consignment saddles and will allow you to try them on for if they dont fit you get your money back (have to pay for it first) also saddles etc..but I do not know about how flex they are about trying it on first. Those are just suggestion....also try to look the saddle up on tack review Horse Tack Review.com - Reviews of horse tack and rider supplies! I have looked up different tack items just to see what kind of reviews it has gotten as I dont want to shell out the money to be disappointed later. Hope this helps some...good luck with your mare and pony club : )

Hey, just a thought, I have an HDR Rivella show jumping saddle, which I absolutely LOVE. I tried a few saddles, such as a Pessoa Gen X, and I really fell in love with my HDR. It is made in Argentina, but because its the Rivella model the leather is better quality then their lower models. The knee rolls are really great for keeping your legs nice and secure over fences!
