Hello :) I was wondering what breed these guys are. The little black one isn't mine, I call him "my foster horse" because his owner up and left him without a word so the ranch is allowing me to take care of him. It's been at least 3 months since i've been his foster mama, and I'm not good with breeds and can't figure out what type of horse he is. I'm not sure how old he is, but he hasn't been gelded yet and as you can see he's very young. The other one is mine. My dad purchased him from a lady who rescued him from a slaughter plant in nevada. He's about 3. The person who broke him for me said he's a mustang, but what do you guys think?

Patience is a virtue. I'm sure not many people have seen your thread yet (I've been on for quite a while and I just barely saw it).

I want to say the black colt looks maybe morgan. But, he almost looks mustang-y as well.

Not sure about yours. Looks like he could just be a paint, but he has a more solid look to him, so he could be mustang.

Problem with mustangs is that there isn't a real mustang "type," so just because a horse looks mustang, doesn't mean it is (and vice versa).

I love your paint boy's markings and coloring, though.

The overo looks purebred paint, in my opinion. But he could very well be a mustang. Is he branded by any chance?

As for the brown, It's harder for me to tell on a young horse, but to me he looks possibly Appendix.

Just a note, but if the mustang is captive born/bred, it won't have a brand. The only mustangs that are branded are the ones straight off the range.

Wait, what slaughter plant was he rescued from in Nevada??? You say he is about three, right - but there haven't been any active equine slaughter plants for longer than that. To me, he looks like a paint. What, exactly, was the basis of the trainers determination?

I'd agree and say the little black has some Morgan in him with the short neck and face, and the overo looks a a full blooded paint, head to toe.. or should a say hoof. Haha. They are both gorgeous either way!
