So i got a new gelding this weekend. They gave me his "number" ... how do I get his papers? Who do I contact?

He is a TB/Warmblood.

Thanks!

Well, the JC won't register anything but a full TB, so try the Warmblood Registry.

Seems to me it would be the AWB Registry and not anything else, since I can't think of another association that would register that combination of breeds.

Ask the sellers what registry he's registered with and go from there. Do they not have his papers? Are they the owner on file with the registry?
This!

What does the bill of sale say? I would assume it would include his registry information.

The foal/horse of a full QH and a full TB can be registered with the AQHA as an Appendix QH. What numbers are you referring to?

You need to know which registry the number was issued by. There are several different registries that could be defined by the term "warmblood"-- and several different "warmblood" registries accept approved TBs for breeding. You need to get more info from the seller so you know where to start.

It is pretty customary for a seller pass along the registration papers or a registration application with the registered/registerable horse they sell. Some registries require a signed ownership transfer from the recorded owner to accompany the registration papers, so you may need some signed paperwork from the seller/recorded owner as well.

Eastowest is correct,

He could be AWR/AWS/or any of the recognized "warmblood" registries like the dutch or hannovarian. You will need the papers to be sure.

Is he branded?

hey guys,

I talked to the seller. He is not registered to her knowledge but that doesn't mean he isn't registered and the previous owner just didn't give his papers.

He is not branded (i don't think i have ever seen a hunter branded- could be wrong though).

Both of my other horses are papered and I did have to sign the papers and send it in to show transfer of ownership- but he didn't come with anything.

Thanks for the ideas everyone :D

If he is not branded then he is unlikely to have been ever presented to any warmblood registry for registration so he may not be what the seller has stated.

^registration is not a big deal to me. He is a REALLY nice horse and as long as the training in there I am a-o-k :D

I got him from a University with a VERY reputable Equestrian Team and I know that they would not lie to me.

Thanks!

did they explain what the "number" they gave you for him pertained to?
Thank you. I asked the same question in post 10. What numbers?
