I need to know if it is possible at all to go to an equestrian club/ranch and get a couple horses for a couple hours. I dont really care how much it costs, I just want to propose to my girlfriend, who grew up a huge horse lover. She has lots of riding experience, but I dont...and I dont know if any place will just let you rent a horse for a couple hours.
Oh, and since I will be proposing, I really dont want a trail guide to come along.
Does any place just let you loose without a guide?

Sounds like a unique idea but rather impractical I'm afraid. Any place that I've ever known that rents horses would never let them go out alone with a stranger. It's for their protection as well as the rider and, of course, their horses.

They have no idea how well you ride (or even if you ride at all), whether you know the trails, your horsemanship skills, or even if you are just out to rob them of their horses and tack.

I hope you can come up with a workable solution - sounds like you want something personal to her - that's great. Good luck to the two of you!

I agree with Iride. I dont know of any place that would let you go without a guide.

Maybe call up some places and tell them what you plan on doing, they might be willing to ride out of sight so you can pop the question, and then return for the ride back to the stable.

Do either of you have friends that have horses? Or what about friend of a friend? Have you checked the local stables? Also, have you considered taking a couple riding lessons...just so you can look like a sexy cowboy on that horse and not a goofy goober:lol:

I rode somewhere in like...West Virginia that let us ride without guides. They also gave us twigs for "crops" and there was random animal skeleton in the area you cooled them down at...not very romantic.

Location would help

A few riding lessons would probably be a good idea too so you can worry about her not falling off

I think the idea is super romantic - I think if you talk to a local stable and explain what you want to do, and take a few lessons in secret, they'll be willing to help you out. :]
