long time no talk. ive been really busy with lately, idk if yall remember me or not.

Anyway, when i was training apollo everything was fine then i started riding with my girlfriend at the time, he stayed at they're barn and he got along with her horses but for some reason all the sudden when we were ridding he got infront of her horse and just started kicking it. And before i left for school he would randomly do it to almost any horse. I havent rode in in almost 4 months cause i went to police academy and what not. But i plan on startin to work with him again, how could i correct this problem?

Kevin you know spurs are abusive and should not be worn.

I too would wear spurs and really lay into him if he even threatens to kick. I would yell and jab him hard.

I'd do the same thing though, only without the spurs. Lay into him when he starts lining someone up or kicks out. It HAS to be immediate though. Sitting through his tanrum, realising what just happened, and THEN giving him crap won't cut it...has to be instantanious.

I'd wheel him around to face the horse he kicked and then back him, making him submit to the other horse if he can't play nice.

Frankly, if the person don't know how to use spurs at all I'd be careful to suggest them. I've seen the girl was forced to put spurs she never wear before. She jabbed the poor horse constantly during the whole ride when needed and not needed (NOT intentionally of course). Rather use the crop or rein - at least you KNOW when you use it.

i have to wear spurs with my 7 year old mare and know exactly when im using them and when im not. :? only my reason isnt kicking other horses its more for when she sees those ocasional horse eating monsters hidden in the bushes and refuses to move haha
