Hi All, I'm looking for a little advice on treating a hock injury. I recently got a TB mare from a breeder. It looks like she got caught in some wire and filleted the hide right off the inside of her hock. It doesn't bother her at all shes not lame and she lets me clean it and treat it. Right now i'm putting EMT gel on it. It is healing, but there is some proud flesh there and every once in awhile her cannon swells. She was in foal when I got her and she had a beautiful colt on the 17th so I haven't been able to give her anything for the swelling. It really looks horrible, but much better than it was. The vet is coming to look at it, but until she gets here, what else can I do?

Skips thanks for the info. Glad to know Spike healed so well. I'll keep doing what I'm doing then. I think that I'm going to have to have the vet cut some proud flesh off though because there was some there when I got her, I just want to keep it from getting any worse.
