With the holidays coming up (I know I'm a bit early but I tend to procrastinate so I'm trying to get a jump on things) I've been thinking about what to do, gift wise, for some people at the barn. I've come up with a few options but I'm not sure which one to go with. Maybe I will do a mix of all of them, go for the more expensive option for those that I know better (though I don't want to look like I like some people better than others). So here are my ideas:

1. I love all the fancy browbands that I see people on here making, so I was thinking about doing some pretty browbands for some people. I'm a crafty/artistic person and I have wanted to try doing some browbands. Issues with this idea are that buying the browbands could get a bit expensive, and I'd have to find out sizes/colors for everyone which might give it away. Also I'm not sure this would be a good option for those who don't have their own horse. So this one I might just do for a few people. I definitely want to try one out for Lucas and give it to my friend for Christmas.

2. I had a book of recipes for hamemade horse treats. I have no idea where it is but I'm sure the interenet has some. I could make up little packages of horse treats to give to people. Maybe I could find some nice Christmasy ones.

3. I got this idea from someone that boarded where I did back when I had my horse. I actually don't know who did it, but they went around the barn and took pictures of all the horses and put them in little plastic ornament frames. So I could do something like that. I was thinking maybe something a little nicer maybe. Since I work there I could get good field pictures of all of them. I'm not sure what to do with them after though. I thought about framing them but I tend to shy away from giving people framed pictures because they don't necessarily have a place to put it (or possibly don't want to have to find a place to put it). But something photography wise is definitely on the table. Again, not a great option for those without a horse.

So those are my horsey holiday ideas. I'd love to hear your ideas/what you do for the holidays for your barn buddies. Or if you have any comments on my ideas, post those too!

If you want to actually purchase things(i'm not very creative :lol here are some ideas I have thought of for the upcoming holdiays: Halter tubing kit, grooming kits, nylon headstalls(Western riders), boot socks, bit cleaner, synthetic riding gloves, helmet refresher, leather cleaner, fly spray, polo wraps, horse shampoo. All under $15.

I'm poor so I'm trying to stay away from spending money. But if I save up a bit maybe I can see what Dover has on clearance. I'll probably end up going on a little shopping spree for Lucas' owner and get some of the things you mentioned. And some of those things would be good for people who don't have there own horse (which is what I'm struggling with right now). Thanks!

I'm poor too, girl, I feel ya'. :lol: I think the browbands would be cute. There are also some pretty easy patterns to make saddle pads that I have seen online.

The homemade horse treat idea sounds great. Out of all of the ideas you posted, I would have to say that was the one I would enjoy getting the most. You could wrap them up in green or red siran wrap with some ribbons curled around the top Maybe tie a candy cane to the outside for the owner too?

For one year(since I'm a poor teenager), I made treats and put them in these little stockings with different horse treat recipes in a little homemade book inside. People really seemed to enjoy it. And it was fairly inexpensive.

I like your ideas! The treats seem like a good idea especially because they aren't too expensive but let everyone know your thinking of them.
Some more ideas:
- sketches/drawings/paintings of the horses (not sure how many are at your barn? that might be hard. lol)
-horse hair bracelets?

We did homemade horse treat for Valentine's Day this past year and for Christmas we made signs for everyone's stall/paddock using a wood burner and wooden plaques we bought at Micheal's Craft Store. We just sealed the ones we knew were going to be outside. A lady at our barn gave everyone a face brush, which was sweet.

Get a little pail and in it u could put an ornament, some treats and if you want to get really personalized you could make a horsehair bracelet for them with their horses tail hair. Ornaments I make each year with my kids. Take a photo, get rhose clear bulbs you can take the tops off of, put the photo inside. Then I put a little paper snow and tie a bow and write the year with a sharpie.

I love this idea, too. On the tag though, I'd put the horses names on them instead of the owner. Hmmm...I may have to steal that idea

Thanks for all the ideas guys! So I'll definitely go for the home made treats since that seems to be the biggest hit. I'll probably end up doing some of the others too since I like to go overboard sometimes lol. I came up with another one too. Every tiome the farrier comes I feel like I should take the horses' old shoes and do something with them but I didn't know what. Today I came up with making dream catchers out of them. So next time the farrier comes I might actually take the shoes and make up a few.

This is what i did for my friend one year. She loved it. You could put the horses anme on it though instead of the person's...but me and her are like sisters so I did her name. I just got different colored plastic beads and some beads with letters on them and hot glued them on. But I found that fabric glue worked best on them...some of the beads were falling off with the hot glue so then I just put a dot of fabric glue on them and they stayed.

I like that roughrider! I found a shoe at the barn (they usually get thrown out) so I'm going to try out my dreamcatcher idea. i'll post pics when I'm done if it doesn't turn out terrible.
