Does anyone have any ideas about horse treats to make?

I make Marlea horse icypoles all the time, all you do is find an empty icecream container, fill it up with water and put apples, carrots and molasas in it


Any other ideas?

DD has some recipes for horse treats around here somewhere -- at Christmas she made up a bunch of horse cookies (from one of the recipes) and then packaged them up with the cookies I had made for our human neighbors (annual tradition to send plates to them all) that have horses.

my horse is still young and wont accept any treats.. she gives me this look like what is this.. Ive tried a few different things.. she sniffs them and then maybe licks it, but wont take anything.. but im always looking for something healthy she can have that isnt an apple or a carrot

I have a recipe or two I am gonna try. I have a tub of flavored electrolyte powder and a bunch of carrots, Gonna add some sweet feed and some molasses maybe appllesuce and bake me. See what I come up with. The intent isnt really treats, more of an electrolyte dose in a cookie form the horse likes. For break time on long rides.

I do! I shred carrots and apples... then add oats, flax, canola oil, and molasses until it makes the consistency of cookie dough. LOW heat cook (250) for a couple of hours so they crisp up. My horsies act like it's a drug and I ONLY give them these after something incredibly challenging like the farrier or vet or worming. If your horse is calorie sensitive substitute applesauce for the oil (nice way of saying fat hahahaha).

I'm still puzzling over how the farrier and worming are "incredibly challenging" :lol:

I like to make hot "horsey" oatmeal on the occasional cold morning for Indie, she seems to appreciate it.

Your desired amount of oats (I just throw in the quick whole grain oats from the cupboard) in the feed pan.

Drizzle some molasses

(For the veggie and fruit part, I like to mix and match.)

Chop up a couple carrots.

Two apples worth of apple slices

Cup of corn (Though not desirable for all horses,)

I personally like to go ahead and add her ACV and corn oil, the two things in her food every feeding anyways.

Then I boil some water and pour in just enough to soak, let it cool enough so it doesn't burn (though it's that way by the time I make it to the barn LOL), and serve.

we have all been newbs so we all know what its like.. I only have 3 years of lessons, and havent don emuch but ride in an arena or the pasture.. so Im still a newb as well.. and you always will be learning something.. if you dont and think you know everything thats when you get hurt
