I am a big fan of 'smartshine ultra' from smart pak. Good stuff in there. :)

I use started using flax on my horses last spring and I was amazed with how shiny they were in just a few weeks!! I am so happy will flax, and I'm going to start using it every year now.

Also... HowClever, what are Chia seeds??? They seemed to really work for your horses!

Besides a good diet, if you have the time curry come her for a good hour. I do that for my horses when I have the time.

It masssages the roots of the hair, and also brings out the natural oils. Yes, it takes time, but I like my results.

I read another person on here (can't remember who) uses a brand called pink. It's for ethnic hair, they use it on the tail and mane too I think and it makes them very soft and shiny. I think I also recall using it on the body.. I plan to get some for my mare :)

You're right about bad shampoos doing more damage than good. But healthy skin and coat needs to be cared for just like we do our own. NO soaps or detergents in the shampoo is a good start, and an oatmeal base is even better. It should be very easy to rinse out and leave them softer and no drying out or dandruff. I use Best Shot Ultra Wash.
Also agree on the diet. I add wheat germ and that is great for the coat and skin, too.
