I have been thinking about sending Demi to a trainer this spring so I can just focus on Romeo's training while Demi is also being started. My question is, what is a good price for training?

I found a stable that is amazing to their horses and my friend just recently had her colt there and he is such a sweet boy that seems to be really nicely started. I am thinking about contacting them.

Here is the little bit of info. on them.
They ride everyday
Price includes:
Feed
Boarding
Training
They are very gentle
And my friend's colt was there for 60 days and the total cost was $1,000. Is that reasonable?
I was thinking it was, that would be $500 a month, and it includes a lot, and the horses are happy after and during their visit to the trainer.

What do you think?

That seems very reasonable to me when you figure the average cost of board is between $300 and $500 alone (indoor). Just ensure you ask and make sure EXACTLY what that price entails. Ask for references. Make sure you visit your horse frequently.

My friends just got a good deal for boarding $575 for the first month, the following months are $775 however. Regular board there $475. Training is 3 lessons or 4 trainer rides on your horse per week.

$500 is a good price if you are getting a good trainer. That is the MOST I would pay for a trainer who has no record to prove their training. A proven trainer will start at about $650 on up.

Yeah that is a sweet deal! The places I know of that are good and provide those services (Boarding, Training and all care) are upwards of $1000/mo.
Check out credentials, visit the barn and SIGN A GOOD CONTRACT!

I'm looking into this myself and the price was 1800.00 a month with a guarantee that my horse would be broke WTC and ridden by a ten year old after 30 days. I live in CT though, where owning a horse is way too expensive.

A beginner 10 year old? That sounds ambitious on their part, considering sometimes it takes a horse a couple of weeks to settle in to a new place before very effective training can take place. I'd get lots of references for those folks and call them all.

OP - If you check out references and are very clear that what you listed is what you get, it sounds like a good deal.

You are going to be disappointed if you believe that. It won't happen.

well he's coming to my barn for a couple of weeks for an evaluation...i know it sounds like a TALL order, but he does give clinics and has alot of good references. I wouldn't feel comfortable sending her away somewhere unless I watch how the trainer and my horse interact for a couple sessions. but the original point was it was 1800.00 for a month.

Yep, I have been looking around but I wanted too see what opinions were on the price for that stable/trainer.

I live on a Training Facility, Training, Board, and feed is 500.00 a month. You really have to be careful who you send your horse to, alot of trainers will have only messed with your horse a few times in a month and will want keep them longer. Also there are some that arent so gentle.

$500 would be very cheap for my area. Did you check other barns? How much they charge? If the average price around say $800 around I'd be VERY suspicious about $500 training and/or care.
