So yesterday i went to the barn to have my lesson. On my way up to get kalypso i pass the pony field. And in the field is this cute palomino pony named angel. For some reason i did not see her in there. So i figured she was hiding somewhere in the field. I went to have my lesson. (which did not go so well btw).

So after my lesson i put kalypso in his stall and went out to to the pony field to look for angel. I walked the whole field...i did not see her anywhere! She was not in the barn either.

I didn't want to ask my trainer where she was because she was busy with the vet and a horse. So when i got home,i sent her an email and asked her where angel was. She said that she sold her. Then i emailed her back *why?????* i still have not herd back from her.

So i am very upset that my trainer did not tell me about angel while i was riding. I had to hear about it in an email.

I know angel belongs to my trainer but i act like shes mine. My trainer even said that (2 years ago she said this)if i could not find a horse, that angel would be mine. But i did find a horse.

But from the very beginning ive been training her. I do all of the ground work and some of the riding. This winter/spring i had this plan of doing major ground work with her. Now that i have my rope halter,14ft lead, stick and string i could use it on her. But now that shes gone...i can't use it. I even have a fleece cooler and a rain sheet for her. what am i susposed to do with that stuff now?? I am sooo upset..

This winter i wanted to work with angel...but then my trainer goes away to florida for a week..so the barn is closed. Then she comes back and said that we can work with her..but i haven't gotten a chance to since she came back from her trip. ::sigh:: I have to find out where she sold her to.

here are some pictures of my favorite pony angel..

here she is when she was first born

That's sad that she didn't let you say goodbye or anything. Hopefully Angel went to a really good home where she has her own person loving her now.

I said it on AIM and I'll say it again, thats messed up. She should have at least told you that she was for sale! That woman is all about the money she doesn't care about the people or the horses that she works with. Thats why I stopped riding there (like 5 years ago) And I have been so much happier away from that place!

So my trainer said that she sold angel because she did not have any work for her. :( Unfair..why couldn't she sell someone else? I could think of 2 other horses that have not been worked in a long time. Sell those guys. Don't sell the pony that ive been working with for a long time. :;sigh::

I can completely understand why you're upset, but please don't be too mad at your trainer. As far as I understand your OP, you were given the chance to own the pony. I'm sorry you're upset and that you didn't get a chance to say goodbye, but she was your trainer's horse to keep or sell. Find peace with the fact that your trainer sounds caring, and the pony went to a great home.

I am so sorry. That must be so hard. Angel is a very pretty girl. Is there any way you might be able to see her sometime?

I might sound like a mean old ogre but it wasn't your horse and you have no right to be mad about it. She sold her because someone wanted to buy her and she wasn't being used. It's pretty simple and she has no obligation to talk to you about it. You just learned a little lesson about what the real world is like.

There is no way I would keep a horse who wasn't being used, except for a young girl who has committments to her own horse and can only occasionally do some groundwork and riding. It just isn't fair on the horse, or the person paying for it's upkeep.

I recently did a similar thing - My Arab gelding was sitting doing nothing, so my couin started riding him. But she was unreliable and wouldn't ride for weeks at a time - It just wasn't fair on the horse. So I sent him to a Riding for the Disabled school where he will actually be used and an active member of the community.

It's one thing to sell the pony but its another thing not to tell the person thats put so much work into her, that she's even for sale. Imagine how you would feel if you were working with a horse, that you fell in love with, and then one day Boom, she was gone. And no one ever told you that she was even for sale, she was just gone. That doesn't sound right to me. It sound selfish, which is exactly what this BO is, and trust me I know, I know her personally.

Yeah it is pretty hard. She wasn't your horse but that isn't to say that you two didnt have a close bond.

These things happened and as hard as it is you can't be mad at your trainer, slightly disappointed maybe. Chin up and it will work out.

You have the right to be sad.

But I have to totally agree with the crowd that says this is not your pony so really you have no right to be mad. Even you say that you did not work with her on a regular basis. Does the BO really need to keep a pony around so you can every now and again work with it when you have some spare time?

Really you should be happy that the pony found a new life where it has a job.

And her not telling you the pony was for sale might be for many reasons (none of which are evil no matter how much some people want to make it out that way). How about the BO did not really have the pony up for sale but an opportunity came along and the pony was the right fit so she sold it. Or how about the trainer knew that selling the pony would upset you so they decided to not tell you. Or maybe the trainer simply did not even think of your relationship when they made a purely business decision.

Running a barn is a business does require a person to make some decisions that might seem selfish to some people. But in the end it is a business.

I am sure, OP, that your horse will totally love that you have more attention to lavish on him now since your time will not be divided.

the same thing happened to me when i had a share on a horse. i paid for alot of the horses expenses, but it wasnt "my" horse. when i went on vacation one summer and came back, the horse was gone. turns out the real owner sold "dell" when i was in florida. i thought that was kinda unfair since i paid for alot of the expenses and i didnt even know the guy was planning on selling Dell, but it happened. i was sad about it, but i just moved on, horse owners are aloud to sell a horse without telling anyone who works with it, it happens all the time. youll find a new horse to work with, or just consentrate on your personal horse
