Alright so, it is now winter in Wisconsin. blehh. :? And our horse pastures are about 35 yards from the house. Inside their shelter, they have a 55 gallon stock tank and outside they have a 20 gallon heated bucket. In the summer, we have a hose running from the faucet on the house to the big tank and just have to turn the water on to water the horses.
Welll... In the winter, the hose freezes. So we get all bundled up and looking like the abominable snowman, get the four 5-gallon buckets and fill them at the faucet. Then we have to put them on a sled and haul them through the snow drifts and waist high snow down to the horse pasture. And repeat. It's quite a sight. Not only that, but it's a constant battle to keep the big tank unfrozen.
So the other day it froze solid. We threw a chain around it and hauled it up to the house with the quad and it took all four of us to haul it down the stairs into the basement. We're still waiting for it to thaw out. Needless to say, we bought a water heater.
On top of ALL of that, last night I went out to water the horses and the faucet itself was frozen. So we used a blow torch and (literally) almost started the house on fire. But it got the faucet unfroze.
I love being a Wisconsinite.
